Hello world!
So I am a 20 yr old guitar player of about 1 year and 3 months, who only took interest in music about 4 years ago.
Here is my wonderful telecaster! (Thank you grand dad for helping me afford this bad boy)
From the start of my journey, ive composed instead of learning to play full songs. Ive learned the basics of theory, some deeper stuff, and spent a lot of time improvising.
I am not amazing, but everyone around me (musically adept or not) seem to believe I have potential for something--but I just do it for the sheer satisfaction of progressing and creating.
Here is a video with some of my compositions and saved videos over the year. Holy do I develop! (And gain weight 😂)
On that channel I also have some old improvs and other nitnacks (like some soundtrap projects that used simple guitar melodies I had in mind and generally trying to have fun with beats)
To jump to a more present day, here are a few of my current work in progress projects (whether that means being practiced for better performances, or composing wise)
This here is an old project I still have to learn how to play right, and I need to develop a lead solo for. But its hendrix-y, and fun!
This here is a classical piece that is a little w.i.p, I am still testing out the harmonic side of mixing in the A major section after my B major section, it sounds not bad but not quite where I want it to be. Its a damn good practice piece though for barred chords and NOT hitting the wrong string...
This here is some of my new piano pieces. I decided to pick up a cheap keyboard and try myself at composing. I have only about 20 hours in, so im not technically proficient, but the melodies are nice!
And that is all for now! I have about a dozen other tracks that I could post but ill wait a while to keep this thread alive!
Hopefully you have fun listening to a newbies journey through the magical, wonderful world that is music!
As always with Jimmy Page stuff the exact timing he's picturing can remain a mystery. Putting his licks into perfect timing gives a solid foundation to work out from What do you make of this single beat set up to loop the first section of the lick at hand? It contains all the physical skills needed for that lick in a bar that can be repeated exactly and of course, measured!
9 notes per beat (plus an extra) with swing foot tap.
How about those measurements? 😉
"thank you for the badge oh captain" 😂😂😂 "does these sound right? I tried both your exercises!" The second one sounds good and that's not an easy pattern. The first one (chromatic octaves) looks to be suffering from a bit of this ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qx4-vqvH4XU
We could use a measurement so you can see improvement! I did an article on spider exercises and how best to use them (imo) a while back. Might be a couple of things in there you haven't come across yet: https://www.oldswannerguitartuition.com/post/finger-independence-the-holy-grail-for-guitarists-1-basic-spider-patterns EDIT: Have now issued you with your Taplature Pioneer's badge of honour Landon. Good to have you on board!
Welcome Andro. That's some collection for a first year! Feel free to shout out here with anything that's causing problems. I'm confident there's a systematic way forward for whatever you can come up with! You mentioned speed being an issue in your Reddit thread. What do you make of this? https://www.taplature.com/single-post/2019/10/30/how-good-is-your-technique Paul.
